 Unprecedented Times Spur Action
|
|
Though Southern Arizona has long enjoyed consistent in-migration and periods of high population growth, the current economic conditions have resulted in a need to diversify the economic engines of the Tucson region. TREO is working hard to continue and even accelerate its leadership in strengthening our employment base by creating primary high-skilled/high-wage jobs.
In response to the economic conditions, TREO recommends possible solutions in a plan we’re calling Tucson: Job One. In conjunction with all our community partners, we have created a proposed immediate action plan with clearly defined priorities to address strengthening the local economy and creating/maintaining jobs and spending. This is our chance to synergize the region’s recent strategic planning efforts and priorities, demonstrating how all local economic drivers can work together to emerge stronger and with a much more diversified economy.
The Tucson: Job One plan breaks down into five strategic focus areas:
- Acceleration of regional and national marketing
- Local company assistance
- Enhanced tools to spur job creation
- Creating a strong and unified voice
- Leveraging the federal stimulus

Improving Connectivity In a rapidly changing economic environment, it’s critical that TREO play a lead role in helping to connect companies to the workers or services they need. TREO’s web site and established connections with local companies can serve a role in providing this “connectivity.” As part of a strategy to improve the connec
tivity between employers and job hunters, TREO recently embarked on a comprehensive survey of 170 of the top local companies to gather data on those planning to hire new employees within the next year. Companies that responded to the survey reported a total of more than 2,200 open positions anticipated to be filled within the next 12 months. (Data as of Feb. 2009). Click the "Who's Hiring" link to get more information about employers looking to fill local positions. Companies' plans to hire are subject to change; be sure to check the company website for the most current hiring information.
Community Connections There are many resources available in the community for people looking for business support, information on starting a business, networking opportunities, and much more. Click the "Community Connections and Resources" link for more information. |
