City of Benson The City of Benson, located in Cochise County, is approximately 45 miles southeast of Tucson. Benson had a 2000 Census population of 4,711 and continues to grow. Benson is the regional transportation hub of Cochise County, located on Interstate 10 at the intersections of State Route 90 and State Route 80, which serve all of southern Cochise County, including Sierra Vista, Fort Huachuca, Tombstone, Bisbee, and Douglas.
Benson's economy is considerably affected by military operations in Fort Huachuca, which is a 30-minute drive from Benson.
Town of Sahuarita As one of Arizona's fastest-growing communities, the Town of Sahuarita is the newest jurisdiction in Pima County, incorporated in 1994. The population at the 2000 Census was 3,242 residents and grew at a staggering 493% to 19,235 people at the end of July 2006. The population forecast for 2011 is 33,319 people.
Currently 30 square miles, Sahuarita is located just 15 minutes south of Tucson and approximately 40 minutes north of the Mexican border.
City of Sierra Vista Sierra Vista is the major population center (100,000) for southeastern Arizona. Located approximately one hour southeast of Tucson, Sierra Vista serves as the main commercial, cultural, and recreational hub of the area.
Situated within the Sierra Vista community is Fort Huachuca, home of the U.S. Army Intelligence Center and School, National Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Test Center, Army Information System Command, and Army Signal Command. Some of the most advanced technologies in the world are being developed and tested at Fort Huachuca.
Sierra Vista is also the home of technology giants such as Northrop Grumman, Lockheed, General Dynamics, and more.
City of South Tucson The City of South Tucson was incorporated in 1940. Today, South Tucson is a mile-square community just south of downtown Tucson, centered at 29th Street and 6th Avenue, and is completely surrounded by the City of Tucson.
Of its population of about 5,500, 83% are Mexican American and 10% are Native American. South Tucson's ethnic character is evident in its widely known Mexican restaurants and its architectural styles, including colorful outdoor murals celebrating its ethnic heritage.
The City of South Tucson is governed by a mayor, six council members, and a city manager. More than 300 businesses, including Tucson Greyhound Park, call South Tucson home.
Tucson Region Tribes There are two tribes in the Tucson region -- the Tohono O'odham and Pascua Yaqui. Together, the tribes possess a rich history and are at the root of the cultural diversity in the region. There are three reservations between the two tribes. The Tohono O'odham have two of the reservations, including the Tohono O'odham Reservation and the San Xavier Reservation. All three reservations are to the southwest of Tucson.
