Inland Port The Tucson region possesses a strong transportation infrastructure including interstate highway, railroad and air freight connections. Lying at the convergence of Interstate 10 and Interstate 19 provides the region with connections to major east-west and north-south trade corridors. The same advantage holds for the region’s rail connections – the Union Pacific Sunset Route runs east-west through Tucson along with the north-south connection to Mexico via Nogales. The existing Port of Tucson intermodal operation is a huge asset for the expansion of rail opportunities in Southern Arizona. Additionally, current air freight operations include integrated carriers, like Federal Express, and cargo operations provided via passenger carriers, Expansion possibilities exist for air freight with the ongoing expansion of the air cargo warehouse facilities at Tucson international Airport.
Based on comprehensive research and data analysis conducted by the Tioga Group and TranSystems, recognized leaders in transportation and logistics consulting, it is unambiguous that the Tucson region has an economic opportunity and competitive edge in this critical area. Importantly our geography, in proximity to the international border, gives us advantages other cities simply do not have.
Global Advantage Program To facilitate international business relations, TREO is closely integrated with Tucson’s Global Advantage program. The goal is to establish dynamic industry-to-industry, research-heavy relationships with cities such as Ottawa, Manchester, and Berlin. In establishing these relationships, TREO leverages its partnership with the University of Arizona Science and Technology Park. Tucson U.S. Export Assistance Center The Tucson U.S. Export Assistance Center, a division of the United States Commercial Service, is dedicated to helping Southern Arizona businesses realize their export potential. Part of a worldwide network of offices, the Center works with firms to build their exports by providing international business development counseling, organizing cost-effective business development initiatives, sharing information on foreign markets, identifying international contacts, and advocating on behalf of local businesses overseas.
