  • The 2008 U.S. News and World Report survey of Best Business Programs ranked The University of Arizona's Eller College of Management No. 12 among public business schools nationwide. These Eller College of Management academic specialties received top-25 recognition:
    • Management Information Systems (MIS) - No. 4 overall; No. 2 among public business schools
    • Entrepreneurship - No. 6 overall; No. 2 among public business schools
    • Marketing - No. 17 overall; No. 13 among public business schools
    • Management - No. 20 overall; No. 16 among public business schools
    • Accounting - No. 25 overall; No. 18 among public business schools
  • The University of Arizona was ranked one of the top 200 universities in the world by QS World University Rankings in 2007.
  • August 2007 - The McGuire Center for Entrepreneurship at the University of Arizona's Eller College of Management was ranked among America's "Best Colleges for Entrepreneurship" by Fortune Small Business and CNNMoney.com.

  • The National Science Foundation has ranked The University of Arizona as America’s No. 1 university for research expenditures in the physical sciences. The recently-released annual NSF rankings of research and development expenditures among American universities showed the UA moving past Johns Hopkins University and the California Institute of Technology to become the nation’s best attractor of research dollars for the physical sciences, which include astronomy, physics and chemistry.
  • Overall, the UA’s ranking among public research universities moved from 14th to 13th, and it remained the nation’s No. 21 institution among all public and private universities and colleges. The UA earned these rankings by attracting more than $530 million in research dollars from federal, state and private sources in the 2005 fiscal year.
    That amount was up nearly 11 percent from the prior fiscal year, when the UA reported $478.7 million in R&D expenditures. The 2005 fiscal year also marked the first time the UA’s R&D expenditures topped a half billion dollars.
  • In addition to naming the UA tops in physical sciences, the NSF report also listed the UA as a top-25 institution in the areas of NASA funding (No. 4), agricultural sciences (No. 13), expenditures among institutions with medical schools (No. 19), National Science Foundation funding (No. 20), social sciences (No. 21), mathematical sciences and psychology (both No. 25).
  • The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy ranks first nationally among pharmacy schools in the percentage of PhD faculty receiving funding for research from the National Institutes of Health, and sixth in terms of the total amount of NIH grants and contracts awarded.
  • In 2007 Financial Times ranked The University of Arizona's McGuire Entrepreneurship #6 worldwide in its global MBA 2007 rankings.
  • The Faculty Scholarly Productivity Index, a new means of assessing doctoral programs at research universities, ranks 354 institutions and more than 7,300 doctoral programs. The index ranked two UA doctoral programs, communication and agronomy and crop sciences, No. 1 among large research universities. In addition, botany and plant biology, pharmaceutical sciences and medicinal chemistry and entomology all received top five rankings. The UA's nutrition program placed 10th among large research universities nationwide.
  • U.S. News & World Report's just-published 2007 "America's Best Colleges" ranks UA in the top tier of the nation's universities -- and the state's top-ranked school.
  • The McGuire Entrepreneurship Program at the Eller College of Management is ranked No. 1 in the nation by Entrepreneur magazine and The Princeton Review. It is the only program in the nation to make top 12 on five ranking lists, including U.S. News & World Report's graduate and undergraduate lists, Entrepreneur magazine's scientific evaluation and peer ranking, and Princeton Review/Forbes. 
  • Eller College of Management ranked No. 10 among business schools at public universities (#18 in the nation overall) in the 2007 U.S. News & World Report undergraduate rankings.
  • Six UA College of Science disciplines placed among the top 20 in their field in the U.S. News & World Report's recent rankings. Analytical chemistry ranked 4th, geology 7th, atomic/molecular/optical physics 8th, geophysics 12th, applied math 13th, and geochemistry 16th.
  • In the just-published 2007 edition of U.S. News & World Report's "America's Best Graduate Schools," the UA's Management Information Systems program is ranked 4th, Higher Education Administration is ranked 12th, and Industrial Engineering is ranked 20th.
  • UA ranks in the top 10 of NASA grant recipients and is No. 1 in space science research. Of universities funded by NASA and the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the UA receives more grants than the next nine combined.
  • The UA is leading NASA's next mission to Mars. Called the Phoenix Mission, it is the first NASA mission led by an academic institution. Read more.
  • An artificial heart developed by UA physicians and researchers is the only device of its kind approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The Cardio West Temporary Total Artificial Heart is an air-driven device that helps patients stay alive until a donor heart is available.
  • The UA Science & Technology Park was named Outstanding Research Park of 2001 by the Association of University Research Parks. The Park had an overall impact of $1.9 billion on Pima County's economy in FY 2003-2004.
