Virtually every factor which makes Tucson an excellent business climate also enhances the community. Favorable trends are clearly evident in population and demographic patterns, transportation and distribution systems, Mexican trade, high-tech development, downtown development, and border, homeland security, and defense policy.

Population
In late 2006 Pima County reached a population of one million residents, which will trigger more business growth for the region. Pima Association of Governments' July 2009 estimate for Pima County population is 1,018,012.

Age
Arizona is the nation's seventh-youngest state. The median age in the City of Tucson is 33.2 and in Pima County is 37.1, according to the 2008 American Community Survey.

Workforce
There are more than 489,600 people in Tucson's civilian labor force. It is estimated there are more than 1,200 high-tech businesses employing 50,000 people, and growth in the high-tech and "clean" manufacturing continues. This represents just one of the trends that will positively affect the Tucson region's workforce by educating current inhabitants and training an influx of new young, educated workers.
