Arizona is the nation's seventh-youngest state with 26.27% of the population under the age of 18, according to the Census Bureau's 2008 population estimates. Only Utah, Texas, Alaska, Idaho, California and Georgia have younger populations. Businesses directly benefit from Tucson's younger population due to the amount of available workforce.
The median age is 33.2 in the City of Tucson and 37.1 in Pima County, according to the 2008 American Community Survey. As in most of the country, the population is aging slightly due to the maturing of the Baby Boomer generation. However, this is somewhat mitigated by an influx of younger workers into the Tucson region from other states and other countries. The population-by-age figures below are based on the 2008 Pima County population.
